Thomas Safley, ’74-’78

Family
I have been married to Donna since 1980.
I have two adult children, Erin (26) and Brandon (23).
I also have three grandchildren, Natalie (age 7), Sean (age 5), and Sam (age 2)!

Career
I work in hospital administration as a Chief Financial Officer. I am starting a new job in Lewiston, ID on 12/1/08.

What do you do for fun?
I like to golf, travel, read, and I still collect comic books! 🙂

Allan Brostrum; 68-71

Allan pledged Gamma Xi in 1968 and graduated with a psychology major and business minor in 1971. He has two children, Grant and Elizabeth. He lives in Santa Barbara where he owns an antiques business.

Craig French; 68-73

Craig pledged Gamma Xi in Fall 1968 and graduated in 1973 with a degree in business administration.

He lives in Santa Cruz with his wife Mimi, and he has two children, Brodie and Kate. He works in real estate investment, and in his spare time he enjoys sailing and golf.

George “Bobo” Dean; 70-72

George pledged Gamma Xi in 1970 and graduated from SJSU in 1972 with a business degree.  He lives in Manhattan Beach and works in apparel manufacturing.

Daniel “Creature” Altwarg; 73-75

Daniel graduated in 1975 with a psychology major and minor in business. He lives in Walnut Creek with his wife Carol. He has two children, Darcy and Brian.

William “Bill” Shivell; ’79-’85

Bill graduated with a B.S. in Aeronautics Operations with his minor in business. He the student representative on the board of directors of Spartan Shops from 1983 to 1985, and led freshman orientation in 1983 and 1984.

During his time in Theta Chi he served as VP, Pledge Marshal, Social Chairman, and Steward. He was recognized with the Thurman-Swarts award in 1985, served as chapter delegate to IFC 1984, and as chapter delegate to Theta Chi National Convention in 1982, where he received the Key Man Award.

He was active in the US Navy from 1985 to 1996 and in the reserves since that time. From his official navy bio: “During 15 years of military flying, Captain Shivell has flown 3198 hours in 6 aircraft types. He completed 58 missions and 183 hours of combat operations, 505 carrier landings and 207 night carrier landings without a single mishap. He is a USS Ranger triple centurion and night centurion, a USS Nimitz centurion, and has earned Top Ten landing honors in Carrier Air Wings TWO and NINE. He wears the Meritorious Service Medal, Individual Mission Air Medal (with V), three Strike-Flight Air Medals, six Navy Commendation Medals (one with V), three Navy Achievement Medals, and several unit, campaign and service awards.”

Bill is now a Boeing 777 First Officer for United Airlines based in San Francisco, and he lives in San Diego with his two children, Grayson and Olivia.

Thomas Hugh Smith (aka “TS”) 69-71

After graduating from San Jose State with a business major and a minor in aeronautical operations, I graduated from naval pilot training and completed two cruises aboard the USS Oriskany with my pledge marshall Charlie Derego. We were in the same squadron and shared a room smaller than any room at Theta Chi. I joined Continental Airlines in 1977 and currently fly the B777. Retired from the naval reserves in 1994.

In 1971 I married my college sweetheart Karen, a San Jose State Delta Gamma, and have been happy ever since. I live in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.

Jesse Reuter; Fall ’74-’78

Family: Wife and 2 adult kids

Career: Sell materials to the chip industry
